Road to Simurgh

“The conference of the Birds Project” is a global, innovative and socially responsible initiative between artists in 7 countries. Inspired by the work of Sufi poet Attar of Nishapur, through different artistic media and metaphors the initiative explores themes of contemporary crisis across the world. Our team at Abertay University has responded to the ongoing climate emergency in sight of the 2021 Conference of the Parties in Glasgow, which will be dedicated to finding strategies to tackle this phenomenon internationally. We worked closely with Simon Sharkey, director of The Necessary Space to bring our vision to fruition. Our answer is “Road to Simurg”, a 2D platformer adventure game. With our game we hope to encourage conversations on climate change and entertain as well as engage an audience of gamers that might otherwise not be interested in hearing about this problem.
